The Center for Communication and Civic Engagement in the Department of Communication at the University of Washington is dedicated to research, the creation of citizen resources and student-designed learning experiences that develop new areas of positive citizen involvement in politics and social life. Our primary focus is to understand how new information technologies can supplement more traditional forms of communication to facilitate civic engagement.

The City of Seattle is committed to promoting a technology healthy community. This includes ensuring that residents have the information technology training and access needed to ensure civic and cultural participation, employment and lifelong learning. The Department of Information Technology has provided leadership and funding for the development of pugetsoundoff.org

The Metrocenter YMCA is the youth and community development unit of the YMCA of Greater Seattle. Metrocenter provides activities for youth which shape values and encourage life-long community service. The “asset building” approach to youth development provides teens with the building blocks to thrive and be successful while having incredible experiences. Metrocenter YMCA partners with CCCE by providing internship opportunties to Becoming citizen students and organizing the pilot youth team for developing pugetsoundoff.org.
